Never one to let a ridiculous Republican trend pass her by, Michele Bachmann was quoted this weekend in a claim of particular stupidity:
“I don’t know how much God has to do to get the attention of the politicians. We’ve had an earthquake; we’ve had a hurricane. He said, ‘Are you going to start listening to me here?’ Listen to the American people because the American people are roaring right now. They know government is on a morbid obesity diet and we’ve got to rein in the spending.”
Of course, her spokesperson, realizing what a complete and utter stupid thing this is to say, now claims that Bachmann was kidding. Duh! Ol' Crazy Eyes would never ever say anything insane and mean it.
In an interesting counterpoint to her theory is one actually supported by science and rational thinking: some scientists are saying Irene's intensity is a direct result of man-made climate change:
While the number of the most intense storms has clearly been rising since the 1970s, researchers have come to differing conclusions about whether that increase can be attributed to human activities.
“On a longer time scale, I think — but not all of my colleagues agree — that the evidence for a connection between Atlantic hurricanes and global climate change is fairly compelling,” said Kerry Emanuel, an expert on the issue at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
I think it far more likely that hurricanes are intensified by greenhouse gases than evidence of God's displeasure over Obamacare. Just sayin'.
GOProud's own personal PR nightmare, President Chris Barron, struck again one Twitter yesterday as he took to the Interwebs to protest Michele Bachmann's linking to the teen suicide epidemic in her district. Many of those suicides were gay or bullied on the perception of sexual orientation, and that has some concerned that Bachmann and her anti-gay allies in the area are fostering a climate of discrimination.
So the ever-thoughtful Barron made this unfortunate comparison in response, once again linking GOProud's name with the craziest person possible:
First, there's a big difference between gonorrhea and hanging yourself because you don't want to live, Chris. Second? Pelosi actually supports safe-sex initiatives. She even paints it in terms that you might understand, saying that promoting contraception cuts on costs:
"Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those - one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government."
Has Bachmann provided any examples of how she is defeating the problem of teen suicide in her district?
Michele "killer clown" Bachmann needs new handlers.
Today is the anniversary of Elvis' death. During a speech in Spartansburg, SC, she chose to commemorate the King's passing with... um... felicitations on his birth...?
Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann got her Elvis Presley dates all shook up during a campaign stop Tuesday in South Carolina. The congresswoman from Minnesota played the Elvis tune "Promised Land" at a local restaurant and told the crowd of 300 that she wanted to say happy birthday to the king of rock `n' roll.
"Before we get started, let's all say happy birthday to Elvis Presley today!" Bachmann said.
But Aug. 16 is the anniversary of Elvis' death, in 1977, and someone in the crowd shouted back, "He died today!"
Bachmann didn't respond and launched into her speech.
Bachmann later addressed the gaffe with reporters, switching easily from jubilation to somber remembrance:
Bachmann corrected herself later as she spoke with reporters, noting the date marked Presley's passing, not his birth.
"As far as we're concerned, he's still alive in our hearts," Bachmann said.
This gaffe and her quick 180 only serves to show what an insincere idiot this woman is.
The latest lie that Ol' Crazy Eyes has spouted is a sneaky one:
"Well, I think the one thing we have to do is reject the new normal level of spending under the Obama administration, because President Obama amped up spending to never-seen-before levels. . . . I mean, one example I'll give you is, we had one employee at the federal Department of Transportation that made $170,000 a year at the beginning of the recession. We had the trillion-dollar stimulus, and 18 months into the recession, we had 1,690 employees making over $170,000. Government has really been growing at — a lot of largesse, but the people in the real world aren’t. And that’s what has to change. Government has no conformity at all with the real world."
She is technically correct that spending took a turn for the worse when the recession began, and that the President approved crazy raises for government employees without heeding the signs that it wasn't economically feasible. What makes this a lie, however, is her assertion that the President in question was Obama. The Washington Post points out that it was, in fact, 2007 when the recession began, under George W. Bush.
In other words, Bachmann gives the impression that she is talking about something that Obama did, but in fact, the big increase in government pay that she denounces started under Obama’s Republican predecessor, George W. Bush.
In fact, the apparent source of Bachmann’s claim, a 2009 article in USA Today, made it clear that Bush recommended across-the-board raises that, after they got through Congress, resulted in boosts of 3 percent in January 2008 and 3.9 percent in January 2009. By contrast, Obama in 2010 recommended the smallest federal pay raise since 1975 — 2 percent — and then froze salaries in 2011.
One of the major memes of the rat-race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination is pinning the economic crisis on the current administration. Immediately following Standard and Poor's downgrade of America's credit rating from AAA to AA+, all the candidates for the GOP nomination immediately laid the slightly-worse rating squarely at the feet of the President, with one cleverly calling for "downgrading Barack Obama from president of the United States." Oh Pawlenty! We'll miss you.
“It happened on your watch, Mr. President,” Michele Bachmann, the Minnesota representative and Tea Party caucus leader, said, drawing applause at an afternoon rally here. “You were AWOL. You were missing in action.”
She criticized the president for spending the day at Camp David.
“I’m calling on the president of the United States to come back to the White House,” Mrs. Bachmann said, “address the American people before the markets open on Monday and give us his positive plan for putting the ratings back up to the AAA rating.”
Let me get this straight: S&P downgraded the US because the President was at Camp David that day? Hmmm. She continued to state that S&P proved her right and that we shouldn't have raised the debt ceiling at the Ames, Iowa, GOP debate:
We just heard from Standard & Poor’s, when they dropped our credit rating and what they said is we don’t have an ability to repay our debt. That’s what the final word was from them. I was proved right in my position. We should not have raised the debt ceiling.
Of course, just about everyone knows now that that S&P actually downgraded our credit rating due to politicians holding our economy hostage and refusing to find new sources of revenue-- ahem, taxes on the mega-rich-- to bolster our deepening deficit.
Without specifically mentioning Republicans, S&P senior director Joydeep Mukherji said the stability and effectiveness of American political institutions were undermined by the fact that “people in the political arena were even talking about a potential default,” Mukherji said.
“That a country even has such voices, albeit a minority, is something notable,” he added. “This kind of rhetoric is not common amongst AAA sovereigns.”
The statement seems likely to bolster one Democratic line of attack, that it was tea party intransigence — not a shortcoming of leadership by President Barack Obama — that is to blame for the U.S. downgrade, from AAA to AA+. Obama himself called on Republicans to “put country ahead of party” Thursday — a dig at conservatives in Congress who are blocking his agenda.
So on just about every count related to the economy, Michele Bachmann has lied, attempting to pin a crisis on Obama when it appears to have been a problem rooted in the intractability of GOP politicians unwilling to solve this crisis in the easiest possible manner: asking those with tons of money to pay their fair share.
Of course, as we all know, this woman is freaking crazy and will lie about just about anything, to include her attendance at her own family reunion. So who is surprised?
Looks like Bachmann is starting to try both sides of the gay/anti-gay fence, with a recent interview on "Meet the Press" in which she refuses to address anything gay at all, instead bizarrely reiterating over and over that she is running for President:
But Bachmann, a favorite of the ultraconservative Tea Party movement, said she would revisit the policy if she reaches the White House.
"The 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy has worked very well," she told CNN's "State of the Union."
"I would be in consultation with our commanders, but yes, I probably will" reinstate the ban, she added.
The ban was overturned in a law adopted in December 2010 that first required the top military officer, the defense secretary and the president -- who is also commander-in-chief -- to certify the change would not harm military readiness and that the armed forces were ready to carry it out.
I asked a friend, Jarrod Chlapowski, who is the Field and Developmental Director of Servicemembers United, what he thought on any efforts on the part of an imaginary Bachmann administration to hash this battle out again:
"Politics aside, I think any executive would have a difficult time reinstating any sort of gay ban in the military, let alone DADT. The public overwhelmingly is in favor of open service. The training is done; the honey is out of the comb. And the last thing any of the service chiefs want is to deal with an extended media spectacle over a reversal that would be unnecessary, harmful, and pure political theater."
I have a little bit to add to this, as I myself have been involved in the push to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell.
Last November, I joined Dan Choi and 11 other patriots in standing up for what we believe in. We went to Washington DC and chained ourselves to the White House fence in order to put pressure on the administration to back full repeal of DADT. Did we make repeal happen? I don't know that. But I do know a month later repeal happened in an unprecedented push for equality in Congress, and I feel confident claiming my part in that narrative.
This in mind, I would like Michele Bachmann, in all her political theater and insane grandstanding, to consider this: If you reinstate DADT, I'll be back. I don't care how many times I have to chain myself to that fence, I will be back, and you will be in for a long, pain-in-the-ass ordeal and media extravaganza.
Do you really want this on your doorstep?
When I took the fence with my comrades-in-arms, America paid attention. Do you want that level of scrutiny on your anti-gay politics? Your recent interviews, essentially refusing to address your anti-gay past, would indicate you don't. So don't screw this up for yourself, Michele.
Because we're watching you, and handcuffs really aren't that expensive.
Michele Bachmann is continuing her quest for legitimacy in the rat-race to the White House, once again distancing herself from her previous anti-gay views by clamming up on LGBT issues during a news interview and insisting that she doesn't comment on "frivolous matters," but only the super serious ones! Okay, lady, I guess your entire career up to this point has been frivolous, as you built your whole platform on anti-gay policy. But whatevs!
Marcus, on the other hand, is uber concerned about frivolous matters, anxiously inquiring from a reporter what the term "silver fox" means, afraid that it might be a gay term.
"Marcus Bachmann plopped down on the seat next to me, in the back of the plane. He pointed at my laptop and asked if he could take a look. 'All I want to know is what they’re saying about me,' he said. 'Newsweek came up with the word "silver fox." Tell me what "silver fox" means.'
"'Do you want me to tell you honestly?' I asked.
"'Oh, don’t tell me it’s something gay!' he said. 'Because I’ve been called that before.'[...]
"I explained that 'silver fox' probably had more to do with the color of his hair.
"'O.K., I can handle that,' he said. Tera, the assistant, assured him that it was a positive term."
I wish I was the one making this shit up, because it's too goddamn hilarious.
Ol' Crazy Eyes went on Faux News today in a call-in interview, placing the blame for the S&P credit downgrade squarely on the President's shoulders:
Of course, she is blithely ignoring the actual statement from Standard and Poors, which cites our inability to generate revenue due to the intractability of the Republicans in office on fiscal issues. Essentially, we are unable to settle our debt because the GOP refuses to allow revenue-raising taxes to be imposed:
"We have changed our assumption on this because the majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act."
The downgrade of our credit rating is a complicated and important issue, but the heart of the matter remains that our reputation and fiscal solvency is being driven into the dirt in order to protect the richest 10% of Americans from paying their taxes. This is disgusting.
Chris Barron continues his insane what-the-fuckery today as he has now come out in order to defend Bachmann's record on gay rights and the reparative Therapygate scandal troubling her campaign.
"So do you think it’s possible then that she’s been misunderstood and actually does not support reparative therapy?
"I have absolutely no idea. None whatsoever. I’ll be totally honest with you, I think this whole conversation about reparative therapy is just silly season. I don’t believe in reparative therapy. I don’t think many serious people believe in reparative therapy. Also, a sideshow has been created here. We are a country that is in economic ruin. Gay people are living under the Barack Obama economy just like straight people. The situation for gay people when it comes to health care and retirement security and income and jobs hasn’t gotten any better under Barack Obama. And those are the issues that gay conservatives care about and want to discuss in this election."
Honey, please. Not only are you attempting to muddy the issue on a rabidly anti-gay insane woman running for President, your assertion that Barack Obama is at fault for the failing economy and increasing debt is just plain untrue. This graphic is circulating showing the expenditures under Bush and under the current administration:
Clearly, the debt and its many consequences were bequeathed from the last president for our current one to handle, Chris. I thought you were supposed to be smart on fiscal issues?
In light of the news that gay blogger James Killough is offering $10,000 to anyone who can prove that Marcus Bachmann is homosexual, Michael Sebastian Lux (our own OneAngryCultist) suggested that I pose as a rentboy and ensnare Marcus for some quick cash. However, I responded:
With the Iowa primary vote a crucial first step to taking the long road to the White House, you might think alienating the local press wouldn't be a hallmark of your campaign. Not for Crazy Eyes!
At this point, the news on Marcus Bachmann's counseling practice's policy of advising gays that they can change to straights is well-known, exploding beyond the gay blogosphere and grabbing attention in the mainstream media. The Bachmann campaign, knowing that this information has the potential to destroy her credibility due to the fact that reparative therapy is a damaging and evil pipe dream, has been attempting to control the rhetoric on her involvement in anti-gay politics.
One Iowa news outlet, the Davenport-based WQAD, pressed the issue to the candidate during a satellite interview. Not only did Bachmann's handlers cut the live feed for the interview, but the station is now blacklisted to prevent further embarrassment to the Tea Party-backed candidate.
"During the satellite interview, behind the scenes, it got ugly. In the News 8 control room, campaign staffers threatened WQAD producers that they would cut off the feed if Rae Chelle repeated the question. A follow-up question was asked on the issue. The Congresswoman's answers were aired nationally on ABC World News Tonight and Nightline.
"At Sunday's Davenport fundraiser was our first chance to interview Bachmann since the satellite interview incident. All Quad Cities media were invited to attend and promised a one-on-one interview during the evening. While our competitors were accommodated, WQAD was blocked and denied."
Does Crazy Eyes really think that censorship and blocking news outlets can save her record on anti-gay policies? Here's the thing about pissing off the press: they're the press. They will print the fucked up shit you do. Alienating news outlets is not beneficial, it's dumb, because they will tell people exactly what you do, say, or avoid saying.
How many anti-gay candidates does GOProud need to endorse? This is starting to be embarrassing.
A statement from GOProud Executive Director Jimmy LaSalvia was released today outlining the organization's intention to meet with all the Republican contenders for the nomination. While they have already met with some of the candidates, they have yet to get face time with Michele Bachmann but are hopeful.
LaSalvia, like Bachmann, earns my admiration because he has really good hair.
LaSalvia hopes to address his organization's legislative agenda with Ol' Crazy Eyes, one item being the intended defeat of a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Passing an amendment, of course, is a legislative goal that Bachmann has used as a pillar of her career.
"The confab between GOProud and Bachmann is not as unlikely as it might seem at first blush. GOProud's website lists 10 legislative priorities, and only one--the opposition to a federal marriage amendment--concerns gay rights. The other nine focus on issues that could appear on any conservative group's website, such as lower taxes, support for Second Amendment rights and repealing the 2010 health care law.
"While the three-term Minnesota congresswoman has largely confined her basic campaign-trail message to economic issues, her past statements and policy positions regarding gay issues face ongoing scrutiny. As a Minnesota state legislator, Bachmann was a strong opponent of gay marriage, and this month, an advocacy group posted a video of a counselor at a Bachmann family-owned clinic telling a gay patient that he can be 'cured' of homosexuality."
I feel bad for Jimmy, in a sort of limited way. Think of the crazy that he has to deal with in his own party.
My concern for GOProud, however, sort of evaporates once Chairman Chris Barron and LaSalvia asserted they would support Bachmann regardless of her anti-gay agenda should she win the nomination:
"In an interview with Politico, GOProud Chairman Christopher Barron said he was 'concerned' and 'troubled' by Bachmann's record and past statements about gay issues, but would not "be part of any 'war against Michele Bachmann.'" GOProud officials generally stress that sending a Republican to the White House trumps a candidate's view on one issue. 'We are committed to defeating Barrack Obama in 2012,' LaSalvia said. 'And want to be helpful to whoever secures the GOP nomination.'"
Ok, I get the whole "political campaigns have to run on donor money" thing but this most recent solicitation for donations from Michele Bachmann screams "greedy and/or desperate."
Whoopi Goldberg recently derided Bachmann's decision to sign the Family Leader's marriage pledge while on The View, and the looneytoons presidential candidate used the opportunity to claim victimization at the hands of "Hollywood liberals," all in order to raise some cash for her campaign. Alvin from Holy Bullies and Headless Monsters posted the text of her letter to potential donors:
"Concerned Fellow Conservative,
"Looks like the Democrats have sounded their alarms in Hollywood.
"The Hollywood elite have been on the attack this week, falsely berating our campaign for President and our supporters.
"On Tuesday, while on The View, Whoopi Goldberg spewed senseless accusations aimed at our campaign. Her comments were not only incorrect, but wrongly attacked my stance on single parents. As the daughter of a single parent, I learned firsthand the difficulties of growing up with one parent. However, it was from my strong and independent mother I learned when the going gets tough, the tough get going.
"In order to show Whoopi, we won’t stand for her attacks, I have set a goal to raise $40,000 in the next 24 hours. Please follow this link right away to chip in $25, $50 or even $100 to help me reach my goal of $40,000 by tomorrow.
"I am proud of my record and I refuse to allow liberals like Whoopi Goldberg to bully our campaign. This is yet another example of how the liberal Democrat establishment has put a target on my campaign for defeat. They'll say and do anything. The comments from Whoopi Goldberg have hit a new low and I must have the resources to defend myself and fight back.
"Liberals across the country believe if they defeat our campaign, the Tea Party movement will be eliminated. I need your support to defend myself and our shared constitutional values right away.
"I won't back down and today, I need to know you stand with me. To accomplish my goal of $40,000 in 24 hours, I'm relying on friends and supporters like you to step up to the plate to help me today. Please follow this secure link to make your donation of $25, $35, $50 or more.
"I'm reaching out to you for help because the liberal media credits me with being an undaunted conservative who routinely leads the opposition to President Obama. That's why the radical supporters of President Obama's agenda are so committed to defeating me.
"The Hollywood liberals believe if they attack my campaign, they have a shot at defeating me and dismantling the Tea Party movement. Your immediate donation will send a strong message to Hollywood, that we are not going anywhere. That's why any amount you can donate to my campaign today - up to the $2,500 legal limit - is appreciated.
"I look forward to your immediate response and I thank you once more for your friendship and support.
"Sincerely,
"Michele Bachmann
"P.S. As the big name liberals continue to come out of the woodwork to attack our campaign, I need your support. I ask that you make a generous donation of any amount you can afford to help me fight back against the millions of dollars liberals are flooding into Obama’s bank account. Can I count on your donation of $25, $50, $100 or even $250 today? Your support - no matter the size - makes a big difference. Please follow this link to make a donation today. Thank you."
Let's play the Michele Bachmann Talking Points Drinking Game. It's simple! Take a drink every time she says the following words:
1. Liberal
2. Constitution
3. Any dollar amount
Take two drinks when:
1. Crazy eyes paints herself as a victim of the liberal elite.
2. She sounds desperate. I can't help but think she sounds like a panhandler begging for spare change to buy cheap hooch at the corner store.
The score this time: 36 drinks. Damn. This campaign is gonna be hard on my liver.
ABC News caught up with Michele Bachmann in Iowa amid revelations that Marcus Bachmann's counseling practice does indeed encourage patients to "pray the gay away." The good folks over at Truth Wins Out actually planted a patient inside the clinic who, within five sessions, was told that it was possible to become heterosexual through prayer.
This claim, of course, is patently false, as confirmed by just about every medical professional in the country. In fact, studies claim that reparative therapy is harmful to those patients and can lead to suicide attempts.
So when ABC News attempted to pin Bachmann down on the issue, she clumsily tried to sidestep the issue by talking about jobs. From ThinkProgress:
"HOST: What is your opinion on reparative therapy and is it something that’s conducted in that center?
"BACHMANN: Well, I’m running for the Presidency of the United States and I’m here to talk about job creation and that we do have a business that deals with job creation. I’m very proud of the business that we created and I’m here today in Indianola, Iowa….
"HOST: But of course the issue today is about this reparative therapy and about what this hidden camera caught and their opinions are going to be aired on tonight’s news. And you don’t want to comment on that and give your side?
"BACHMANN: Well, I’m here to talk about the Presidency of the United States. As I said again, we’re very proud of our business and we’re proud of all job creators in the United States. That’s what people really care about."
You're right, Michele. What people care about is job creation! However, you built your career on something entirely different. Up until this point, since she very first started her career in politics as a State Senator, Bachmann has built the core of her platform on anti-gay policy. Jeremy Hooper from GoodAsYou (the hottest news nerd I know) succinctly and thoroughly put it all together:
Jeremy Hooper (right) with Pam Spaulding. No, really, he's that hot.
Seriously, Bachmann? Now that you've built a career out of anti-LGBT politics and tainted money from the oppression of suffering homosexuals, you think you can just ditch it all and pretend you never said this shit? Uh, uh, honey. That ain't gonna fly, not in this election.
When I got over my outrage that Michele Bachmann wanted to take away my right to view gay-for-pay, I (and everyone else) noticed that the preamble to the Family Leader's pledge for marriage contained a controversial reference to slavery. Basically, the preamble asserted that life was better back in the good ol' days of slavery for black kids, because at least then they had more of a chance of being raised by a father and mother.
I mean sure, they were exposed to rape, lashings, deplorable living conditions, disease, insufficient food, and 18 hour days, but at least they had a mommy and a daddy.
"Bachmann spokeswoman Alice Stewart, who confirmed the Minnesota congresswoman signed the pledge, said Sunday 'In no uncertain terms, Congresswoman Bachmann believe[s] that slavery was horrible and economic enslavement is also horrible.'"
Um, if there were a situation in modern America today that remotely approached slavery, I think that more people than whackjob Michele Bachmann would be pointing it out. We fought the bloodiest war in American history over slavery, and the continued use of that terminology is so freaking offensive I would put it up there with Holocaust references. Bitch, STFU.
Former Governor of New Mexico, Gary Johnson (did you know he was running for president? I missed that...) condemned Michele Bachmann's signing of the Family Leader pledge and derided the document as un-Republican and racist. Of course, one wonders what Republican party he's thinking about when trying to paint the organization as inclusive, but I digress.
However, this is one guy that I might want to hang out with! He's the first (and I wonder if any more will join him) GOP candidate to speak out against against this piece of hate speech titled "The Marriage Vow – A Declaration of Dependence upon Marriage and Family." His response to it is up on his website, and here's an excerpt of the firm stance he took:
"Government should not be involved in the bedrooms of consenting adults. I have always been a strong advocate of liberty and freedom from unnecessary government intervention into our lives. The freedoms that our forefathers fought for in this country are sacred and must be preserved. The Republican Party cannot be sidetracked into discussing these morally judgmental issues — such a discussion is simply wrongheaded. We need to maintain our position as the party of efficient government management and the watchdogs of the 'public’s pocket book'.
"This ‘pledge’ is nothing short of a promise to discriminate against everyone who makes a personal choice that doesn’t fit into a particular definition of 'virtue'.
"While the Family Leader pledge covers just about every other so-called virtue they can think of, the one that is conspicuously missing is tolerance. In one concise document, they manage to condemn gays, single parents, single individuals, divorcees, Muslims, gays in the military, unmarried couples, women who choose to have abortions, and everyone else who doesn’t fit in a Norman Rockwell painting."
Rock on with your bad self, Gary Johnson! This laissez-faire attitude towards social issues is one far more indicative of a smart conservative, I find, especially after chatting with a really genius (and drunk) bunch of them during a GOProud mixer last month in Minneapolis. The conservative that truly cares about his country is one that wants to create jobs, not keep children from getting adopted by caring gay parents.
The Family Leader, an ultra-conservative Christian group in Iowa, has created a document called "The Marriage Vow – A Declaration of Dependence upon Marriage and Family," which they have asked Republican candidates for President to sign. It is a firm pledge to uphold "family values," and those who would sign the pledge must agree to the following principles (to include the banning of pornography). From ThinkProgress:
Bitch, don't fuck with my porn.
– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE: The preface to the pledge reads, “Social protections…have been evaporating as we have collectively ‘debased the currency’ of marriage…in complete absence of empirical proof, that non-heterosexual inclination are genetically determined, irresistible and akin to innate traits like race, gender and eye color; as well as anti-scientific bias which holds, against all empirical evidence, that homosexual behavior in particular, and sexual promiscuity in general, optimizes individual or public health.” Footnote 8 reiterates this notion.
– HOMOSEXUALITY IS LIKE POLYGAMY, ADULTERY, POLYANDRY: Vow 4 requires the candidate to pledge “Vigorous opposition to any redefinition of the Institution of Marriage…through statutory, bureaucratic, or court-imposed recognition of intimate unions which are bigamous, polygamous, polyandrous, same-sex.”
– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK: Footnote 4 claims that homosexuality causes shorter life expectancy and a higher probability of a long list of sexually transmitted diseases. The Leader has previously compared same-sex marriage to second-hand smoking.
– SEX IS BETTER AFTER MARRIAGE: Vow 5 requires the candidate to support the notion that “married people enjoy better health, better sex.”
– PORNOGRAPHY SHOULD BE BANNED: Vow 9 stipulates that the candidate must “support human protection of women and the innocent fruit of conjugal intimacy” and protect them from “seduction into promiscuity and all forms of pornography…and other types of coercion or stolen innocence.”
– REJECT SHARIA ISLAM: Vow 11 requires the candidate to reject Sharia law.
Right? Kind of a stinker of a document, requiring signers to basically attach their name to some policies that would be extremely unpopular. Who the hell would sign it?
I've worked in numerous porn stores, and while I do not really watch pornography all that often (it gets old after a while and I'm too busy besides), don't fuck with my right to watch hot gay boning whenever I want. Not only is this a booming industry (I thought you didn't want industry regulation, Mrs. Bachmann) that supports a LOT of employees in this country, there are far better industries to tackle that do a lot more harm.
The idea that sex is bad is one I firmly reject. I'm sorry that Mrs. Bachmann had to get herself hitched while she was a young chit of a thing, but the rest of us plan on having lots of fulfilling, happy sex for the rest of our lives. And in my case, no, it probably won't be with just one person. Banning pornography (but not, say, big tobacco or violence on TV) helps no one and certainly doesn't change the way people are going to fuck.
You know what? I would love to peruse the browsing history of Mr. Bachmann's laptop and see just what he would think about a ban on porn.
Citing Mr. Bachmann's recent "popularity" with gay blogs across the country recently, self-describe gay dating mega-site Gaydar.net has offered the aspiring First Mister a free lifetime membership.
"Marcus Bachmann is popping up on everyone else’s gaydar, we figure he might want to be on the real Gaydar! With over six million members, we like to think Gaydar is the picture of inclusivity–from swarthy barbarians to piggy politicos–all are welcome!"
Michelle Goldberg, columnist on the Daily Beast and Mike Rogers, managing editor of The Raw Story, appeared on Ed Schultz's MSNBC show to talk about the homophobic social agenda of Michele Bachmann's campaign and discussed the question: can her anti-gay rhetoric really help propel her to the top of the polls in the GOP rat race to the presidential nomination?
Mike points out yet another inconsistency in Bachmann's policies which are garnering unilateral acclaim among the Tea Party set: even though Crazy Eyes has virulently opposed government funding for health care, her husband's counseling practice has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in Medicare money to practice rumored ex-gay therapy. Watch:
So what do you think? Will Michele Bachmann's anti-gay language come back and bite her in the ass?
