Ha! I wonder what they think now of their CPAC favorite Donald Trump? In light of his views on gay rights, do they think HE is a bully?

Donnie T: "OMG, You Aren't Talking About Me?!"
Donald Trump tried to get coy with the press yesterday, saying there's always the possibility that he could reverse his decision and actually run for president.
Sigh.
Sigh.

Takei's Take On Trump
In a Tweet yesterday, George Takei reacted to the news that Donald Trump has dropped out of the melee for the GOP nomination:
His is one of my favorite Twitter feeds. He’s pretty freaking hilarious.

Trump, Huckabee Throw In Their Towels
The GOP rat race has gotten one Baptist and one hairpiece smaller, with Mike Huckabee backing out of his presidential bid on Saturday and Trump giving up today.
I notably wrote about Huckabee's admiration for the Seven Mountains Doctrine and am pleased to bid that theocrat goodbye, but I'm a bit disappointed in Donnie-T! We were looking forward to having the most entertaining Presidential race ever!
"After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the Presidency. This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country. I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election. I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector."
Right, Donnie. I'm sure that you backing out has nothing to do with the fact that, with the implosion of the birther movement, you've become the laughing stock of both DC AND NYC.

Dammit, and I was just about to come up with a name for his hair, too...

The Afterbirther Fallout
There's a lot of cranky birthers today, as two of the biggest proponents of the birther conspiracy were at the end of some very pointed questions last night.
Orly Taitz was a particularly tasty treat as Lawrence O'Donnell brought her on his show in order to get her to apologize for perpetrating the media circus that she practically gave birth to three years ago. Naturally, she pretended like the birth certificate-- what she's been howling about for years-- was a non-issue.
"She's crazy. I invited a crazy person on the show to see if a crazy person faced with the thing that the crazy person was trying to get for the two and a half years could say something responsive, something human to the document that was released today."
There you have it, folks, the "Queen of the Birthers."
Now for the Birther King!
Donald Trump got real snippy on CNN, as John King pinned the President's "sideshows and carnival barkers" label directly on his lapels. How about those tax returns, Donnie T?
2012 is going to be an exciting election year.

Donald Is Just SO Honored
Donnie T's response to the President's release of his birth certificate. Essentially? Trump is just SO honored that the President listened to him on this issue. Then he proceeds to say "we need to examine this closely!" about fifty times, ya know, just in case the President of the United fucking States is a liar.
Suck It, Birthers
The President released imagery of his long-form birth certificate this morning on the official White House blog, along with this statement:
"The President believed the distraction over his birth certificate wasn’t good for the country. It may have been good politics and good TV, but it was bad for the American people and distracting from the many challenges we face as a country. Therefore, the President directed his counsel to review the legal authority for seeking access to the long form certificate and to request on that basis that the Hawaii State Department of Health make an exception to release a copy of his long form birth certificate. They granted that exception in part because of the tremendous volume of requests they had been getting. President Barack Obama's long form birth certificate can be seen here (PDF):
"At a time of great consequence for this country – when we should be debating how we win the future, reduce our deficit, deal with high gas prices, and bring stability to the Middle East, Washington, DC, was once again distracted by a fake issue. The President’s hope is that with this step, we can move on to debating the bigger issues that matter to the American people and the future of the country."
We can only hope this puts this effing circus behind us. It's unlikely, of course. "What?!" cries Donnie T, "Does that certificate say that he was born... in Honolulu, Mars?! I have private investigators on the case!"

Donnie T Wants to Commit War Crimes
Donald Trump recently stated that the US should forcibly reimburse itself with Iraqi oil in payment for its liberation of that country from dictator Saddam Hussein. I really don't have to say more about how that would be a disaster, right?
Well, just to be sure you know, this plan to save our economy is a little thing the 1907 Hague Convention calls "pillaging," which is a war crime. Just FYI.
"The startling claim went without controversy until today, when Good Magazine pointed out that Trump's 'plan' to seize $1.5 trillion from Iraq's oil profits to 'reemburse ourselves' for the invasion and subsequent occupation would actually be an explicit violation of international law -- a violation considered to be a war crime.
"'According to the 1907 Hague Convention, "pillaging," the stealing of valuable goods from a locality, especially during combat, is a war crime, regardless of what you feel you deserve,' noted Cord Jefferson, Good's senior editor. 'In the Hague's exact words: "The pillage of a town or place, even when taken by assault, is prohibited."'"
In other news, in a February poll hypothesizing a Presidential grudge match between Barry O. and Donnie T., Trump came in second only by a hair.

Can we talk about the OTHER war crime in the room? Like what kind of cruel and unusual punishment Donnie is performing on his poor scalp?

GLAAD Issues Trump Boycott
Donald Trump is not only trying to remake his image on the unfortunate birther meme, but also as a conservative Christian who doesn't want the gays to have the same rights as everyone else. Fine, Donnie! You don't want us playing with your toys, we'll stay off your playground.
GLAAD issued a boycott of his business holdings, and the Gay and Lesbian Travel Association is planning on issuing a ruling on the travel destinations that he has a stake in. Here's GLAAD's list:

Poor Donnie T
Poor Donald Trump. He's leading in the polls for the Republican nomination (scary, innit?) but really he just wants us all to know how hard it is being anti-gay in New York City. As Andy on Towleroad points out-- he's welcome to move someplace else.
Of course, he goes to babble about how Christian he is yet just LOVES tying people to chairs and killing them.
His beef reminds me of a joke. Two out-of-town homophobes are sitting in a restaurant in Manhattan. They're just horrified by all the inherent gayness of NYC! During the course of their conversation, one of them says "I just wish they could all be shipped off to their own island so we don't have to deal with them."
A man from the next table over leans over and says, "Honey. You're on it."

Donnie T. Responds To Allegations Of Being Weird By Being... Well, Weird
I'm developing a crush on this man. I've long been known to love crazy people, and damn, he is just providing me with more and more material.
On April 1st, New York Times columnist Gail Collins wrote an opinion piece titled "Donald Trump Gets Weirder." And it's true! She skillfully points out his unprofessional treatment of his detractors (namely, Gail Collins), speculates he is running for president in order to promote his whackadoodle train wreckfest "Celebrity: Apprentice," and mocks him for his recent subscription to the birther craze.
Well, Sir Donald is never one to refuse a challenge! So he responded with a letter to the editor and boy howdy, this guy sure knows how to prove a point-- Gail Collins' point, that is.
He starts with some VERY salient points about his candidacy-- namely, that Gail Collins doesn't know any big words and that he is a best-selling author. You know, because the NYT Best-Selling list has ALWAYS been a measure of literary greatness. I think Charlie Sheen could probably have been more coherent.
"Even before Gail Collins was with the New York Times, she has written nasty and derogatory articles about me. Actually, I have great respect for Ms. Collins in that she has survived so long with so little talent. Her storytelling ability and word usage (coming from me, who has written many bestsellers), is not at a very high level. More importantly, her facts are wrong!"
Donnie continues to burp out exclamation points and conspiracy theories at the link below-- it's a great read. Best Repub ticket ever: Trump/Bachmann all the way!
