Michele Bachmann Isn't Just Dumb, She Makes Bad Jokes Too

Around the 00:30 mark, Bachmann, during her appearance on Leno, tries to explain away the reparative therapy scandal surrounding her Christian counseling clinics by asserting that when asked about it, she misheard "pray the gay away" as "pray the gray away."  Uh, the joke... falls flat.

She also seemed to confuse her beliefs and convictions with a criminal conviction.  Which, in my mind, isn't too far off:
“If you become president — and you seem pretty strident in your views…,” Jay Leno said, before Bachmann interrupted him.
“Convicted. I’m convicted,” she said.
“Convicted?” Leno replied. “No, you don’t get convicted until after you’re in office. That’s later. You have to get elected first.”

Taiwan Hearts Michele Bachmann

Not really.

Continuing with silly videos about Ol' Crazy Eyes, Taiwanese animation sensation Next Media has given Bachmann the funny treatment with this video rundown of her candidacy, ending with speculation echoed by many of the pundits stateside: Rick Perry's introduction into the race for the GOP nomination has sunk her ship, leaving her nothing but the veep spot to hope for:

Michele Bachmann Will Do Anything For Press Coverage

I can't decide which is funnier, Michele Bachmann screaming "boobies" or Marcus saying "I know, what they hay?!"

What Does Overturning Roe Vs. Wade Have To Do With Creating Jobs, Michele?

Michele Bachmann has very noticeably distinguished her candidacy for President by refusing (on big news outlets anyway) to talk about LGBT issues, justifying her silence on her anti-gay record by insisting that she's running for President and the President should only focus on job creation right now.  In related news, she is a big liar and wouldn't know what the President did if he slapped her in the face with his job description.

Anyway, Crazy Eyes is all about jobs and nothing else, right?  You wouldn't know it from yesterday's GOP candidate's forum in South Carolina.  During the forum, anti-gay activist and Princeton professor Robert George asked Marcus' beard if she would overturn the Supreme Court's decision in Roe Vs. Wade and make abortion completely illegal.  From ThinkProgress:

GEORGE: Would you as president propose to Congress appropriate legislation pursuant to the Fourteenth Amendment to protect human life in all stages and conditions? [...] Given the clear mandate of the Fourteenth Amendment empowering Congress to enforce the guarantee of Equal Protection shouldn’t Congress act on that now?

BACHMANN: Yes, I believe that they should. [...]

GEORGE: And if it meant a confrontation with the Supreme Court are you prepared for that?

BACHMANN: Most assuredly.
What about taking away a woman's reproductive rights creates jobs, Michele?

Happy Labor Day

I hope everyone is having a safe and happy Labor Day.

It appears to me a bit ironic, in some ways, that our country still celebrates Labor Day. Today's American holiday began in 1882 in New York City, a large parade having been put on by the Central Labor Union of New York. Although it was inspired by a labor festival in Canada, Oregon was the first state to officially recognize this celebration of the workers' contribution to society in 1887.

Following the death of Labor protestors and agitators at the hands of the US Army and federal marshals in the Pullman Strike, thirty states across the union followed Oregon's lead and adopted the holiday by 1894, when the federal government finally adopted Labor Day as an American celebration of the working class.

Traditionally, Labor Day consisted of local industry's parade to show esprit de corps followed by a festival for laborers and their families. Now, the day seems to inspire no more than an excuse for barbecue and beer.

Labor wants to eat your Bibles! Or something.

Perhaps that's why it's still celebrated. If Michele Bachmann was more well-versed on American history, she likely would be screaming her head off that it was a Communist institution inspired by Satan. Scott Walker would likely instead say "Labor Day hurts jobs" and then continue his war of attrition on worker's rights. The true meaning of the holiday likely has slipped beneath the attention of most of these anti-Labor fatcats. After all, it's far more well-known as the last day on the calendar to wear white.

Not so here. At OneAngryQueer, I'm celebrating, with gratitude, the sacrifices made by brave union leaders in years past. It's because of them that we have things like maternity leave, a minimum wage, and a 40-hour work week. We owe them a lot, and we can fulfill that debt by continuing to fight for the rights of the lower and middle class, and by saying "no" to the Koch Bros.-inspired policies that have attempted to destroy Labor in recent years.

So, Happy Labor Day from OAQ. Enjoy your barbecue and your beer, but take a moment to reflect why we have today's day off, and why Labor still fights for the right of the common worker.
