If Michele Bachmann Wins The Presidency, Who Would Really Be President?

Bachmann is once again giving a bad name to female GOPers everywhere, as the Tea Party candidate has famously asserted in the past that she is not a feminist and that she believes that a woman must submit to her husband. Now, as reported by the AP, it comes out that she pursued her law degree because her husband told her to. Ouch.

"'He is her godly husband,' said Peter Bachmann, Dr. Bachmann’s oldest brother, who lives on the family dairy farm across the eastern border in Wisconsin. 'The husband is to be the head of the wife, according to God.' It is a philosophy that Michele Bachmann echoed to congregants of the the Living Word Christian Center in 2006, when she stated that she pursued her degree in tax law only because her husband had told her to. 'The Lord says: Be submissive, wives. You are to be submissive to your husbands,' she said."

Uh.  No.  You cannot be elected President in order to have someone else tell you what to do.  That's kind of the point.  As HRM George Bush II famously said, "I am the decider!"  Is this really what constitutes an empowered American?

Bush Snubs Obama's Ground Zero Invite

The circus surrounding Osama bin Laden's death continues today, as the NYT reports President Obama has invited former President Bush to visit Ground Zero with him, which Bush has declined to do.

"'President Bush will not be in attendance on Thursday,' said his spokesman, David Sherzer. 'He appreciated the invite, but has chosen in his post-presidency to remain largely out of the spotlight. He continues to celebrate with Americans this important victory in the war on terror.'"

The visit will entail Obama visiting with families impacted by the 9/11 attacks.  I wonder why Bush has refused the invite-- maybe it's because last time Bush made a publicized visit to Ground Zero he practically promised to kill bin Laden with his bare hands?  Or maybe he just knows he says stupid shit in front of cameras and is tired of being made fun of on SNL.

Dubya Cancels Trip To Switzerland, Fears War Crimes Charges

Her Royal Majesty King George II had plans to visit a Jewish conference in Switzerland-- until he realized that he would be vulnerable to charges as a war criminal as a consequence of authorizing torture during his presidency.

"The Jewish charity group, United Israel Appeal, said it was canceling Bush’s invitation on security grounds, not due to legal action. 'The calls to demonstrate were sliding into dangerous terrain,' Robert Equey, a lawyer for the organization, said. Protesters urged attendees of the rally to bring a shoe, recalling the moment when an Iraqi journalist threw one at Bush.

"The human rights groups had a different interpretation. 'Whatever Bush or his hosts say, we have no doubt he canceled his trip to avoid our case,' the Center for Constitutional Rights and others said in a statement. 'He’s avoiding the handcuffs,' Reed Brody, counsel for Human Rights Watch, told Reuters."

He has repeatedly stated that he has no regrets in authorizing waterboarding of detainees at Guantanamo Bay.  If he feels he did the right thing, maybe he should stand before his accusers and assert the morality of his decision.  Or is international law too much of an inconvenience for Dubya?
